ASO Presents Masterworks III - Pictures at an Exhibition
ASO Presents Masterworks III - Pictures at an Exhibition
February 2, 2025 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm
Strathmore, 5301 Tuckerman Lane, Bethesda, MD 20852
Join the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra for a stirring performance of Masterworks III - "Pictures at an Exhibition", including the vibrant sounds of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, the elegant passion of Saint-Saëns' Violin Concerto No. 3 with Concertmaster and Violinist Netanel Draiblate, and the powerful imagery of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, in a concert that celebrates the artistry of musical storytelling.
Step into the world of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, a groundbreaking Black composer who brought fresh, dynamic sounds to the 19th-century orchestra. His Overture to The Song of Hiawatha, inspired by the moving spiritual "Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen," is a powerful testament to music’s evolving, inclusive spirit.
Prepare to be captivated as ASO Concertmaster Netanel Draiblate returns to the Maryland Hall and Strathmore stages to bring Saint-Saëns' Violin Concerto No. 3 to life! This will be the first time the ASO performs this piece under the baton of our Maestro, José-Luis Novo. Dedicated to the legendary Pablo de Sarasate, Violin Concerto No. 3 gracefully blends Classical tradition with Romantic flair, capturing both elegance and drama in every note.
And finally, experience Modest Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, an evocative journey through a museum of sights, sounds, and emotions. From the playful to the profound, each movement tells a vivid story, culminating in the iconic "The Great Gate of Kyiv."
Don’t miss this matinee performance of transcendent music that spans cultures, eras, and emotions! Buy your tickets now!

Sarau de Samba at Glen Echo Park
February 16, 2025 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Glen Echo Park, 7300 Macarthur Blvd, Glen Echo, MD 20812, USA
Experience the exuberant and community-centered tradition of samba at EducArte’s Sarau de Samba, a monthly celebration of Afro-Brazilian culture in the heart of the DMV. Renowned local Brazilian performers Pablo Regis, André Coelho, and Ilheuma Zezeh lead the Rio de Janeiro style music and dance event. Samba is an interactive experience and we invite you to join the Sarau de Samba.
Set in the historic Glen Echo Park, Sarau de Samba features a dynamic ensemble of skilled musicians and dancers, showcasing the diverse rhythms of samba, from Golden Age classics and choro to modern pagode and high-energy carnival beats. More than just a performance, this event invites attendees to become part of the music, with opportunities to dance, sing, and even play instruments alongside the professionals. Each session starts with a beginner dance lesson. The event is open to people of any skill level, no partner or instruments required.
Sarau de Samba is presented by the region’s premier Brazilian performing arts presenter EducArte in partnership with Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts & Culture. Glen Echo Park is a family friendly venue and park that offers free parking and is easily accessible by public transportation. Food and drink are for sale. This family-friendly event offers a welcoming space for all ages and backgrounds to come together.
Join us monthly for an afternoon of rhythm, dance, and community. Sarau de Samba isn’t just an event; it’s a living, breathing celebration of Brazilian identity and the unifying power of music. Don’t miss this chance to experience the authentic spirit of Brazil right here in Maryland!
